This French animated feature premiered in France on October 15, 2025, after first launching at this year’s Annecy Film Festival in June. NWave Animation and Sony Pictures adapted it from the Chickenhare comics written by Chris Grine and published through Dark Horse. Grine also wrote the script for the Benjamin Mousquet production alongside Dave Collard.

According to critics, the movie’s wholesome message resonates with the soundtrack, which 22D Music released on October 10, 2025. No U.S. release date for the film has been announced.

Soundtrack Review and Highlights

Since the movie is only available in Europe, I haven’t seen Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog. As such, I must base my opinions about it on its trailer (included below) and its soundtrack, which is listed under its French title. However, it must be a very popular film and series, since it has a video game and a fan community website dedicated to it.

Because of this, the soundtrack likely serves as a keepsake for Chickenhare fans, allowing them to relive key moments and emotions from the movie. Luckily, NWave hired a veteran performing artist to write and perform the music. As a result, the music stands strong on its own with playful energy and emotive themes.

As it stands, the Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog soundtrack is perfect for any animation or cinema music enthusiast. It’s an eclectic mix of orchestral scores and catchy tunes. It has uplifting melodies, playful rhythms, and a few surprises.

Overall, Puggy created an album for car rides, studying, or simply daydreaming about new adventures. Without seeing the movie, I don’t know if any of the music enhances its emotional arcs and scenes. However, the soundtrack works well as if it were just another album from the band.

The Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog Movie Trailer

From the trailer, Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog looks like a DreamWorks film. It wouldn’t feel out of place standing next to the Ice Age or Madagascar franchises, sporting the same animation style, characters, and comedy.

I also like the fact that the trailer is more of a mini episode than a traditional trailer. It starts traditionally enough as Chickenhare reveals his plans to his friends. However, the trailer lets the scene play out instead of splicing in clips from other moments in the film. That makes it repeatable as a standalone product.

I can see why people love the Chickenhare franchise. If the movie ever comes to the United States, I would love to see it. For now, I have to settle with just the trailer.
