Not every movie has a one-word title. It’s even rarer when that title is just a number. When it happens, the film is usually science fiction, a horror story, or both. They often have soundtrack albums like the 9 movie soundtrack, which dropped in 2009.
Koch Records released a 20-track 9 movie soundtrack album for the animated sci-fi horror film. The soundtrack featured several musical cues and the film’s theme song, performed by Coheed and Cambria.
I watched 9 when it first came out in theaters. It had an interesting premise, but was it good? Keep reading to find out.
The 9 Movie Soundtrack Album from Koch Records
Everyone loves a good post-apocalyptic horror story. There is a thrill in seeing what might happen after the world we know ends. The genre is filled with interesting stories and music that perfectly fit the scenes. The 9 movie was an animated attempt to satisfy the itch.
Entertainment news media had a field day with the film, noting the quality of the CGI and the brilliant soundtrack. That praise would continue with the release of the 9 movie soundtrack album by Koch Records on August 31, 2009. The album featured 19 tracks from the original score composed by Deborah Lurie and Danny Elfman, as well as the song “Welcome Home” by Coheed and Cambria.
While the 9 movie soundtrack did complement the story of the movie’s nine doll protagonists, the album did not feature “Over the Rainbow,” the only song actually in the film. “Welcome Home” was only used in the trailers. The soundtrack didn’t include the other trailer song, “The Captain” by The Knife, either.

The Post-Apocalyptic 9 Movie
Universal and Focus Features released 9 to theaters on September 9, 2009. The animated post-apocalyptic science fiction feature film follows the adventures of 9, a tiny robot, as he tries to find his kin among the ruins of a post-human world. It’s based on a 2005 UCLA Animation Workshop short film created by Shane Acker, who also directed the feature.

The movie is a decent sci-fi film. It’s nowhere near as epic as the reviews claimed it to be, but it was a good emotional film with a wholesome ending. It’s not something I’d go out of my way to watch again, but I wouldn’t object to it.
