Back Lot Music Released Illumination’s Minions and Monsters Soundtrack

Illumination finally released their latest installment in their much-beloved Despicable Me Universe, Minions and Monsters. Stylized as “Minions & Monsters”, the animated film basically tracks the exploits of the Minions as they attempt to take on Hollywood.

And since it’s a Minions film, the movie features an original score from none other than award-winning Composer John Powel. Moreover, he wrote this Minions and Monsters Soundtrack to reflect their point of view.

Therefore, Minions fans can rejoice since Back Lot Music released the soundtrack on July 1, 2026, to coincide with the film. Additionally, this album features Powel’s entire score, allowing you to have your own Minions adventures whenever you want.

Moreover, it isn’t a digital-only release. That’s because they are also releasing it on CD and as a stylized 2-LP set. In other words, you can enjoy the soundtrack from wherever you get your music and then some. However, you must wait until September 11, 2026, if you want the physical release.

How Good Is the Minions and Monsters Soundtrack

Surprisingly, I have a confession to make. I have yet to see the movie, nor any of the other Despicable Me franchise films. So, I’m coming into the Minions and Monsters soundtrack basically blind. Sure, I’ve seen clips, and know some of the lore, but nothing that would leave me with preconceived notions.

That said, I’ve heard John Powel’s music before and therefore had some expectations because of him. With this in mind, I wasn’t disappointed.

Musically, it’s generally a mix of comedy and adventurous symphonic instrumentation. In other words, it feels like one of Powel’s works. That’s because you can hear his little touches everywhere, telling a story with little words.

You can literally enjoy it as it is: a beautiful soundtrack album, all things considered. Some of the tracks have a Minion choir, but that’s just part of the charm. It works as a standalone album either way,

Final Thoughts

To conclude, the Minions and Monsters soundtrack is an enjoyable cinematic musical experience. That’s because it tells a story though sound that’s hard to beat. Though, I suspect that works equally well in the film as well.

But that’s my opinion. Now, what’s yours? Post your thoughts in the comments below.
