Warner Bros. and WaterTower have released the “Cat in the Hat Theme Song” from their upcoming animated retelling of the Dr. Seuss children’s book. They also announced that the song is just the debut single from the film’s soundtrack, which they will release later.

WaterTower Music Released the Cat in the Hat Theme Song as a Single
Warner Bros. Animation is giving us a new rendition of the old Dr. Seuss tale, The Cat in the Hat. They’re dropping it in theaters on November 6, 2026, but we don’t have to wait that long to enjoy its music.
That’s because they partnered with WaterTower Music to release the “Cat in the Hat Theme Song“ as a single last week. So, now we can enjoy the song, written and performed by Tim Minchin, with Michael Fitzpatrick and actor Bill Hader. Fitzpatrick is, of course, Fitz from Fitz and the Tantrums, while Hader stars in the film as the Cat.
Additionally, Grammy Award-winning composer Lorne Balfe helped Minchin produce the track, which should be readily available from all digital music services. That should include your favorite streaming music app, along with the few suggestions in my collector’s guide below.
The full soundtrack album featuring Balfe’s original score should arrive on October 30, 2026.
A Quick Review of the Cat in the Hat Theme Song
The “Cat in the Hat Theme Song” has a very showtune aesthetic. For instance, the performers sing the song as if they’re on a stage performing to a live audience. It also feels diegetic. The song constantly breaks the fourth wall, suggesting that the characters know that they’re characters in a film.
Musically, the song is big and loud. Something is always happening from the singers to the percussion and harmonies. Because of this, the song can feel a bit too much at times. As a result, I don’t know if you could sing along with the song as the lyrics invite us to.
However, that doesn’t mean the song is bad. It might actually be good when taken in context. That’s because it’s the theme music of a children’s film, and the fast pace will certainly keep the little ones entertained and interested.
Thus, I can’t fully recommend the song until the film drops in November. Until then, only play the song occasionally when you need something this loud and fast to pick you up.

As I have said, the “Cat in the Hat Theme Song” is a bit overloaded for a standalone single. However, it definitely fits the Cat’s chaotic nature. Thus, it might be the perfect theme song for the film. However, there’s only one way to find out.
