Natalie Holt Makes Animated Debut with Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom
It’s Halloween time, and the Mossy Bottom Farm has a problem. Shaun’s attempts to fix a trampled but beloved pumpkin patch have gone awry. Now, Farmer is missing, and a beast roams the Mossinghan woods.
That is how GKIDS, StudioCanal, and Aardman revealed their latest sequel to the Shaun the Sheep saga. They’re calling it Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom and promised that it will have the whimsical storytelling and corny British humor fans expect. They also expect to release the film globally in theaters on September 18, 2026.
Known for their humor, heart, and technical mastery, Aardman is handling all the animation for the film. That bodes well for the film since they did all the previous films, as well as beloved classics such as Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run.
However, choosing Natalie Holt may complicate things. Although an accomplished BAFTA Award-winning composer, she’s making her animated film debut with The Beast of Mossy Bottom.
What Can We Expect from the Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom Soundtrack?
Like any animated film, music plays a crucial role in the Shaun the Sheep franchise. It’s what creates the story’s emotional depth and comedic timing. So, we should expect The Beast of Mossy Bottom soundtrack to have the same playful melodies and suspenseful undertones as the previous films.
Fortunately, Holt is no stranger to spooky yet charming films. As one of Hollywood’s most sought-after composers, she’s known for her inventive compositions and atmospheric soundscapes, such as Loki, Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Journey.
As seen in these films, Holt’s musical style blends classical orchestration with modern elements. The result is often familiar yet innovative. However, Shaun the Sheep is an established franchise with its own unique sound. So, it will be interesting to see how well her style works with it.
Holt is aware of the challenge, though. During interviews, she described writing music as writing stories containing little snippets of emotion, and how well it parallels filmmaking. She has also reportedly drawn inspiration from classic horror motifs and Aardman’s previous works.
So, the Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossysoundtrack should be a fun, suspenseful, and lighthearted romp that matches the film’s insanity.
