Greg Heffley’s father gave him an impossible task: to improve or join the military. Now, he must face ridiculous challenges to gain his father’s approval. But is the Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw soundtrack worthy of those misadventures? And how do we find out?

Fortunately, Walt Disney released the Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw soundtrack to music stores on December 5, 2025. The album features 28 original tracks from the film, composed by John Paesano and Adam Hochstatter.

In addition to The Last Stand, Disney is streaming the previous Wimpy Kid movies. Please keep reading to learn where to watch them and to read my review of the soundtrack.

Disney Released the Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw Soundtrack Everywhere

Featuring an all-star cast, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw follows Greg on his quest to meet his father’s expectations, continuing the boy’s story of constantly getting into trouble. Walt Disney released this, the fourth animated Wimpy Kid chapter, on December 5, 2025, to Disney+.

The movie brought back much of the cast and crew from the previous films, including John Paesano and Adam Hochstatter, who wrote the film’s score. Film music fans should know this pair from their score work for such movies as Daredevil, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Together, these two composers produced at least 28 pieces of music for The Last Straw. They claimed these pieces would create a balance between the film’s heartfelt introspection and playful motifs. Luckily, we didn’t wait long to see if they succeeded in that quest.

That’s because Hollywood Records released the soundtrack on the same day as the film’s premiere. Now, you can stream or download the music right after watching the movie.

A Quick Review of the Last Straw Soundtrack

Animation soundtracks do more than set the mood. They are the lifeblood of their films. Given how well Paesano and Hochstatter seem to understand this reality, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw soundtrack should provide enough emotional connections to make you want to see the film if you haven’t done so. However, there’s only one way to see if that’s the case.

Fortunately for the soundtrack, you can tell it’s a Christmas-themed album right away. It mixed wintery sounds with a classic dramatic score. It sounds intense. It’s not something you’d want to hear at a party, but that might have been intentional. This is film music after all.

Overall, I can tell that the music is trying to tell a story, but it fails to deliver it without the animation. However, I suspect that the album will work well if you know the accompanying scenes for these tracks.

As such, I would recommend The Last Straw soundtrack to any Wimpy Kid fan. However, the rest of us should wait until we watch the films before we dive into the music.
