The Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack Gets Reformatted for Its 40th Anniversary
The 1980s Transformers show was something truly special. Typically called Generation One (G1), it was less of a cartoon and more of a full-blown rock opera about giant robots, destiny, and childhood trauma.
Now, we get to relive that experience all over again 40 years later. And it’s all thanks to Hasbro’s 40th anniversary movie “Apology Tour” celebration, which began this weekend with an updated release of the movie’s soundtrack.
That’s right. Hasbro just released the Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack Reformatted Edition album digitally, during its San Diego Comic-Con panel on July 24, 2026. Moreover, this new album features new renditions of the film’s 10 iconic songs. However, we must wait until September 4 for the CD and vinyl releases.
What Is The Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack Reformatted Edition?
The original Transformers: The Movie soundtrack sits in a very special place for those of us who witnessed it as kids. That’s because it featured the best mid-’80s soundtrack music, despite being a two-hour toy commercial.
Moreover, these tracks defined a generation through their dramatic synth scores and adventurous tones. Many of them still hold their luster even to this day.
However, The Transformers: The Movie: The Soundtrack: The Reformatted Edition doesn’t just re-release those same tracks. Instead, it full-on reimagines them into something new and grander.
In other words, this isn’t a simple remaster. Hasbro basically rebuilt these tracks from scratch with the help of their partner Reinging Phoenix Music. Together, they produced something that’s heavier and more modern yet retains the spirit of the originals.
Sure, we don’t have most of the old artists back, but the new ones certainly filled their roles nicely. For instance, Hasbro’s in-house band, Knights of Unicron, could jam next to the best of them. Luckily, Stan Bush and Composer Vince DiCola both returned to reprise their roles in the new album.
Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack Track List: Built for Autobots, Decepticons, and Air-Guitar Heroes
As for the music itself, The Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack Reformatted Edition might be the best versions of these songs out there. Sure, the old tracks deserved all the praise they got. But these new renditions are on another level.
For instance, let’s take the new version of “The Touch”. The original was motivational scripture for us 80s kids, but the new one is pure ear candy. It’s clear that Bush never lost his Touch, and in bringing him back, Hasbro made its smartest move. It also seems right that Hasbro released the song as a single, which you can read about here.
However, we can’t forget about the new edition of “Nothin’s Gonna Stand in Our Way”, which was also released separately as a single. Sebastian Bach truly made the song his own, giving it something reminiscent of the original’s heavy metal sound. There’s even a music video for it, which you can watch below.
Then, there’s DiCola’s iconic original score. It fully captures the film’s most iconic scenes through its electronic textures, dramatic rhythms, and muscular melodic lines.
All in all, The Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack Reformatted Edition is a great album to listen to even if you never heard of the 80s cartoon before. It has that classic 80s metal music flavor with a modern touch that simply works.

Final Thoughts
This “Reformatted Edition” of the Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack didn’t need to exist. But I’m glad it does. That’s because it’s more than a re-release. It’s a celebration of what made the old 80s show so memorable.
