While it’s gotten better over the years, adult animation often gets weird with an overreliance on a singular topic. Fortunately, we also got a few decent soundtracks from it, including the strange but wonderful Mating Season Soundtrack.
Released on May 22, 2026, Netflix’s Mating Season Soundtrack is a quirky little pop album that’s surprisingly wholesome given its topic. Sure, the music’s about sex and getting more of it. But these are real songs, and not distorted messes trying too hard to be edgy.
That makes it a good album to listen to on its own or as part of a larger playlist or collection. It’s short, though. It has only nine songs, which will give you about fifteen minutes of music. But the Mating Season Soundtrack makes up for it through its character, vocal personality, and oddball comedy energy.
Why the Mating Season Soundtrack Works
Good comedy soundtracks require a delicate balance between humor and music, while maintaining cohesion with the show’s internal logic and themes. The few that do this well become classics that everyone talks about.
The Mating Season soundtrack is nowhere near that level of quality, but it works decently well as is. That’s because it doesn’t feel like Netflix made it just to have a soundtrack. Some thought was actually put into it.
It makes sense, too. Composer Mark Rivers also served as the show’s producer and showrunner. So, he knew when to use each and every vocal choice to either sell a laugh, a character beat, or both.
Then, there’s the vocal performances themselves. For instance, the AJR title track gives the album a nice entry point. It’s loud and fast like an opener should be.
However, the soundtrack’s real appeal comes from these songs being diegetic. They’re actual snippets of dialogue, complete with big deliveries and fast pivots from the characters themselves.
Why The Mating Season Soundtrack Matters?
What I really like about Mating Season is that it understands one of the oldest truths in cartoon music. That is: sometimes one funny, hyper-specific character song is worth more than ten minutes of generic soundtrack wallpaper.
This album is not chasing prestige or Emmy gold, and honestly, good. It knows its lane and is content to stay there. As a result, it sits in that sweet spot between a cast album, a comedy record, and an animated series oddity.
Therefore, if you love joke songs, bizarre lyrical hooks, or tiny musical showpieces, this album is absolutely for you.
A Complete Package
Furthermore, the track list tells you everything you need to know about the album’s (and the show’s) strategy: get in, make an impression, get replayed. The nine tracks basically have no wasted space between them. That’s a strong move for something like this.
That’s because we, animation fans, replay songs differently than general soundtrack listeners do. We loop clips, revisit jokes, latch onto one weird musical fragment, and suddenly a 58-second track has become part of our personality.
Mating Season feels built for that exact behavior. It is quick, catchy, and specific enough that I can easily see a few of these songs becoming the ones fans keep coming back to whenever they want a hit of the show’s vibe.

As I noted before, Netflix’s Mating Season Soundtrack isn’t special. But that’s a part of its charm. It’s the perfect album if you love cartoon character songs, cast-driven soundtrack chaos, and animated comedy.
