My Review of the Soundtrack
Academy Award-winning Michael Giacchino is a good musician, and Disney’s Zootopia Soundtrack is a testament to that.
You can tell that he brought in an 80-piece orchestra to perform the score. The music is bold, upbeat, and reminiscent of Giacchino’s previous work, including Up, The Incredibles, Inside Out, Star Trek, Jurassic World, and Lost.
However, it can feel too Disney at times. It’s supposed to be a buddy cop film, but you won’t know that from the music.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good soundtrack, and I recommend it to any Disney music fan. However, it feels more like a Disney princess soundtrack than a silly cop show. Heck, “Try Everything” probably would have worked as a Disney princess song in another life.
Now, I admit that I haven’t seen the film yet. I’m saving it for a future movie reaction podcast. So, the music’s energetic pop and cinematic orchestration might mirror the film’s rather dynamic storytelling. However, you won’t know that by listening to it as a standalone album.

Final Thoughts: On to Zootopia 2
The American Film Institute named the award-winning Zootopia one of its top ten films of 2016. The soundtrack warrants such a title. It’s more generic than I would like, but I don’t mind listening to it. It’s also good enough to make me want to see the film and its sequel.
