In 2016, Shout Factory released an animated Lovecraft horror movie to the world. While it went straight to home video, the Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom soundtrack was released a few days earlier.

Varese Sarabande released the Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom soundtrack on September 23, 2016. The album features 27 tracks from the movie’s original music composed by George Streicher.

If this is your first time hearing about this movie, you might wonder if it’s still available. If that’s the case, keep reading to find out.

Varese Sarabande Released the Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom Soundtrack

The young Howard Lovecraft rips open a portal to a strange and horrifying frozen world after accidentally reading the legendary Necronomicon. Now, a great adventure waits for him in the 2016 animated movie Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom.

To bring the horrifying creatures to life, Shout Factory hired George Streicher to write the movie’s original music. Streicher used his experience writing music for other horror and fantasy animated adventures to craft a soundtrack fitting for the world of Lovecraft. However, critics noted that it was rarely used.

Still, Shout Factory expected the movie to succeed. As such, they hired Varese Sarabande Records to release the Frozen Kingdom soundtrack digitally on September 23, 2016, despite the album’s reported January release date.

Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom Got Mixed Reactions

Shout Factory released the animated feature Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom on Blu-ray and DVD on September 26, 2016. Based on the novel of the same name, the movie stars:

  • Ron Perlman
  • Christopher Plummer
  • Jane Curtin
  • Doug Bradley
  • Kiefer O’Reilly

Directed by Patrick O’Reilly, the film follows the young Lovecraft as he walks through the frozen world, meeting its strange inhabitants along the way. The 2016 animated feature tries to bring the magic of the legendary American horror writer, H. P. Lovecraft, to a new generation.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, the movie was successful enough for Shout Factory to release two sequels: Undersea Kingdom in 2017 and Kingdom of Madness in 2018.

You can also stream the movie from most streaming apps. I have included the trailer below for your convenience.
