1974’s It’s a Mystery, Charlie Brown Soundtrack was finally released this month, after all these years. Moreover, the album includes 21 tracks from the special’s original score by composer Vince Guaraldi. You can also get it on CD or vinyl, or digitally.

It’s a Mystery, Charlie Brown Soundtrack Finally Released
It took them 52 years, but Lee Mendelson Film Productions finally released the It’s a Mystery, Charlie Brown Soundtrack earlier this month, on September 11, 2026. Not only was this the soundtrack’s first release ever, but it was also for the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts franchise.
Peanuts soundtracks are basically the stuff of legends. So, it’s a very special occasion when one of them gets released, and that’s no different for this one. That’s because the new album features four bonus remix tracks from Ron McClure, besides the film’s original score by Vince Guaraldi.
However, that’s not all, since you will find this 21-track “Extended Edition” album available digitally and physically. In other words, you can also get it on either CD or vinyl, and not just digitally. Additionally, the vinyl release comes with either standard black or crystal-clear “eyeglass” records.
And that’s on top of the bundled small Snoopy Holmes magnifying glass. It also comes with an Easter egg puzzle where you must find all the tiny Peppermint Patty robbers
They’re also releasing a single.
Lee Mendelson also released the track “It’s a Mystery, Charlie Brown” as a single. However, it’s the same track included in the main album. So, you can safely ignore it.
Why It’s a Mystery Still Matters
There are basically no bad Peanuts specials. And It’s a Mystery is one such example. The CBS animated special aired on February 1, 1974, right in the middle of the franchise’s golden era when it could explore stories beyond the usual holidays, school settings, and sports comedies.
And it’s for that reason that It’s a Mystery explored the wonderful world of film noir and mystery. It’s also why the special follows Detective Snoopy, a.k.a. Snoopy Holmes, as he attempts to solve the mystery of a missing bird’s nest.
And all of it was supported by the wonderful sounds of its soundtrack from the then-already legendary Guaraldi.
A Quick Review of This Release of the It’s a Mystery, Charlie Brown Soundtrack
Obviously, It’s a Mystery, Charlie Brown is before my time. But I can still appreciate its soundtrack.
With that said, its soundtrack is definitely 70s music, and it’s definitely Peanuts. That’s because Peanuts’ music has a distinctive sound you can instantly recognize anywhere. In other words, the soundtrack has a big band sound with the distinctive twang of 70s country music. Given that it’s actually jazz, that makes sense.
It also feels like video game music. That’s because it sounds like 8-bit chiptune, even though I know it isn’t. That’s impressive for music initially released a decade before chiptune was a thing.
It’s all instrumental. So, the soundtrack should fit any mood or playlist, either as a standalone piece or for its historical context. I’m also glad that I got the chance to hear it.

Overall, this soundtrack release was a treat. Sure, I don’t have any nostalgia for it. But the It’s a Mystery Soundtrack is good on its own. And that is on top of its historical context.
