Walt Disney recently announced that their upcoming Lilo and Scratch animated short film will feature an original score by composer Haim Mazar. They also revealed their release plans for it.

Walt Disney Hired Haim Mazar to Score Their Lilo and Scratch Short
Walt Disney dropped several announcements this weekend at their annual D23 event. While most of them were expected, there were a few that surprised everyone, including some new info on Lilo and Scratch, ther upcoming animated short film sequel to Lilo & Stitch.
Now, the short wasn’t entirely new, of course. They had previously announced it during their panel at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 26, 2026. However, we didn’t know the details until now. For instance, we finally know that Haim Mazar did the film’s original score.
Mazer Isn’t New to Disney Animation
Mazar needs no introduction since you’ve probably already heard his music. That’s because his previous work includes such hits as Scary Movie, The Iceman, The Taking of Deborah Logan, Sneakerheads, Woke, Self Help, Desperation Road, and I Am Wrath.
But he also has his hands in everything from film, television, animation, “themed entertainment”, and advertising. You can even buy royalty-free cues from him for your YouTube videos and Twitch streams.
He’s no stranger to Disney animation either. And that’s because he’s also writing music for the next installment of the VERSA dialogue-free short film project. Then, there’s the music he made for Disney’s parks.
About Disney’s Upcoming Lilo and Scratch Short
As for the film, Fawn Veerasunthorn and Malcon Pierce directed the upcoming sequel to the 2002 animated feature Lilo & Stitch. It also stars Chris Sanders, who returns to reprise his role as Stitch, and Maia Kealoha, who reprises her role as Lilo.
As a sequel to the original film, Lilo and Scratch follows Stitch and his many misadventures with Scratch, a cat-like alien Lilo adopts. Disney plans to release the short alongside its animated feature Hexed on November 25, 2026.

Don’t Confuse Lilo and Scratch with Lilo and Stitch 2
Please note that while it’s a direct sequel, this Lilo and Scratch short isn’t Lilo & Stitch 2. That honor falls to Disney’s next live-action installment of the franchise. The new short isn’t even the second animated feature, which is 2005’s direct-to-video Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch.
Final Thoughts
I don’t know why Disney didn’t bring back Alan Silvestri (Lilo & Stitch) or Dan Romer (the live-action adaptation) to write the music for Lilo and Scratch. However, Mazer is a decent pick just the same. I hope the best for them on the project and look forward to hearing what they have in store for us.
