Making a Long Story Short is a skill. You must make your story both entertaining and informative, while also ensuring it is accurate. Netflix is attempting to do so with its latest comedy. But will it hit the mark?

Long Story Short is an animated adult comedy about life in Hollywood. Netflix released the series on its platform on August 22, 2025. You can also watch the show’s trailer and listen to its opening song.

Netflix is hoping the series recaptures the hype from its 2014 comedy, BoJack Horseman. Continue reading to discover where you can watch the trailer and decide if it’s worth watching.

Netflix Makes a Long Story Short with BoJack Horseman Creator

Critics adored BoJack Horseman. Everyone praised the series for its satire and emotional depth. It broke new ground in what could be done with adult animation, setting the bar for the animated landscape we have today.

Netflix hopes that history will repeat itself with its new comedy, Long Story Short. Created by the creator of BoJack Horseman, Raphael Bob-Waksberg, the animated series follows the many misadventures of the Schwooper family across multiple generations and time periods.

Bob-Waksberg also serves as the showrunner and executive producer for Tornante Television. Meanwhile, ShadowMachine handled the animation for Long Story Short, which was released on August 22, 2025, with a second season already in development.

The Long Story Short Cast and Crew

Tornante Television brought back the BoJack team to produce Long Story Short. The team includes Lisa Hanawalt, Noel Bright, and Steven A. Cohen, serving as producers alongside Bob Waksberg. Meanwhile, Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico lead the animation team for ShadowMachine.

The star-studded voice talent includes:

  • Paul Reiser
  • Abbi Jacobson
  • Lisa Edelstein
  • Max Greenfield
  • Ben Feldman
  • Nicole Byer
  • Angelique Cabral

Michaela Dietz and Dave Franco also star in guest roles.

A Long Story Short with Music from Jesse Novak

Netflix gave the production of the Long Story Short soundtrack to Jesse Novak. Novak scored every episode of the show, including the title music. His previous work included BoJack Horseman and Tuca & Bertie for Netflix.

Long Story Short Trailer and Opening Review

Long Story Short | Official Trailer | Netflix

Netflix wants Long Story Short to bring back the BoJack fans and then some. However, Tornante made the show feel different than its predecessor, according to Bob-Waksberg. Luckily, they released a trailer and opening song for us to check out, which you can watch below.

Show Trailer

The trailer leaves much to be desired. Without the description of the show, I wouldn’t know what the show was about. It’s just a few slices of life clips. It doesn’t identify the protagonists or why we should follow their story. It might be okay for those who love slide of life stories with no plot, but Long Story Short is not for me.

Main Theme

The show’s main theme music is just as uninspiring and unfinished. It sounds like it should be a song, but they forgot the lyrics. Other than that, I feel like circus music. Given the show’s premise, that feeling is not surprising. Unfortunately, it also makes me uninterested in watching the show.

With season 2 already on the way, Netflix is betting that Long Story Short will be a success. If it does, I will mention it here on Toon Radio. I may even consider creating a series if there is demand for it.

  1. […] Indie animation is hit-and-miss, but it lets you try experimental stories and music. The Bullet Time soundtrack does well when paired with its visuals, but it’s a disaster on its own. If you want to try something that works, check out the Long Short Story soundtrack here. […]
