Online music streaming lets us listen to our favorite songs and discover new music with just a click. With services such as Pandora Radio, we can sample music from around the world that we would not otherwise find. We just type in our favorite artist, song, or genre, and the service does the rest.
How to Use Pandora Radio
Pandora operates differently than other music discovery sites. There is no genre list, user connections, or ratings. The service uses a dynamic algorithm based on similar music traits instead.
The Pandora media player is just an interface to the Pandora Internet Radio System. You do not even need a Pandora account to use it. You only need a broadband internet connection. Though, your Pandora account lets you create stations and use the social features.
To get started, you type in your favorite song, articles, genre, or album in the provided text box, and then select from the displayed options. You can also choose one of the pre-existing stations as well. After a few more preferences prompts, Pandora will start playing your music. You can then use one of the many community features to share, buy, and manage your music.
Pandora Uses Musical Traits to Deliver Music
The Pandora playlist comes from the Pandora Music Genome Project. The project is ongoing research trying to categorize music according to certain characteristics.
These characteristics include:
- Arrangement
- Beat
- Form
- Harmony
- Lyrics
- Melody
- Orchestration
- Rhythm
- Syncopation
- Tempo
- Vamping
- Voice
Everything you do at the Pandora Radio website is also a part of the project. The player randomly plays music based on your previous musical tastes while everything you click provides the research group with more data. You can even read why the service choose to play a song by clicking the “Why did you play this song” option from the album art right-click menu. Pandora currently only works with modern music genres, such as rock, pop, and hip-hop, but they are always adding new genres from time to time.
Who can listen to Pandora Radio?
Pandora Radio is only available in the United States, Australia, and New Zeasland for anyone with a broadband connection, but you are free to use the service whenever and wherever you want. You can use Pandora Radio through its website or an app. Pandora has apps on every platform, internet-enabled televisions, streaming devices, Blu-ray players, and mobile device.
Find The Right Streaming Platform
Regardless of how you use it, Pandora is a great way to discover new music. You won’t get live music from it, nor do they have every genre. For instance, if you need cartoon theme songs, you need to wait until I can bring the Toon Radio stream back. However, the service has everything you need to enjoy music with your friends and family.
